Ledger said in an official blog post it has tightened product-handling rules for authorized retailers and distributors to prevent a recurrence of cryptocurrency theft linked to device tampering. Under the new rules, sellers must keep Ledger products in a separate storage area rather than on store shelves and hand them directly to customers at the time of purchase. Ledger also said sellers must immediately notify the company if a customer reports an issue with a product.
Ledger reiterated an existing rule barring the resale of returned devices even if they appear unopened. The company had earlier halted sales across Southeast Asia and at one distributor in Germany after a device-tampering case involving a recovery-phrase theft tool was discovered. Media reports said losses could exceed $86 million, but Ledger did not disclose an official damage estimate.
