Zcash price climbed on Sept. 16 as the community reviewed results from a major vote on the network’s upcoming NU7 upgrade. ZEC traded around $1,180-$1,190 after gaining roughly 6% during the latest daily session.
The vote drew unusually high participation, with about 2.4 million ZEC taking part from roughly 3.6 million eligible coins. That represented about two-thirds of the eligible supply at the snapshot used for voting.
ZEC Holders Cut Block Times by Two-Thirds
Some 99.9% of participating ZEC supported reducing target block times from 75 seconds to 25 seconds.
Blocks are the batches of transactions added to the chain, so the change would shorten the average wait for a first confirmation.
The proposal pairs the faster interval with adjustments that keep overall issuance rates steady over calendar time.
Holders also delivered a clear message on monetary policy. About 98.9% voted to retain Zcash’s existing Bitcoin-style halving schedule, under which miner rewards are cut in half at fixed intervals.
The alternative of a smoother, more gradual reduction in new ZEC creation drew little support.
Only ZEC held in the Ironwood shielded pool could vote. Ballots were encrypted and split so that economic weight counted without revealing individual balances or identities.
The privacy-preserving method marked a significant step up from earlier polling that drew far lower participation and exposed more open disagreement.
Additional results showed 96.6% favor waiting until February 2031 before beginning to reissue ZEC collected through the Network Sustainability Mechanism, and 99.3% preferred shipping NU7 as soon as possible while dropping any features not ready by a September 30 deadline.
The vote itself does not activate the changes. Developers still need to implement, test and include the selected features in the eventual upgrade.
Shorter blocks form part of broader work aimed at faster private payments, including earlier software improvements that reduced mobile proof-generation times.
Zcash Price Rise 7.2% on the News
ZEC crypto price has been on the rise as the day of publishing the vote results approached. The almost unanimous nature of the approval of quicker blocks and the decision to keep the current schedule of halving is seen by the market as a more transparent look into Zcash’s roadmap for NU7.
The network has not yet identified the point at which the updates will be implemented. At the same time, the ZEC crypto price has become one of the top gainers in the cryptocurrency market, beating Bitcoin and Ethereum.
