The U.S. House Ways and Means Committee plans to hold a markup on Sept. 16 for a package of bills related to cryptocurrency taxation.
The measures under review include H.R. 9175, which would defer the taxable event for cryptocurrency received through mining or staking until the asset is actually sold. The package also includes H.R. 9172, which would restrict so-called ‘wash sales,’ in which investors sell crypto at a loss and quickly repurchase it to use the loss as a tax deduction. The bill would extend existing wash sale rules for stocks and other assets to cryptocurrency.
