U.S. spot <a href="https://xpertsstudio.com/bitcoin-slips-to-78218-as-greed-holds-at-69-and-pepeto-quietly-fills-its-stage/” title=”Bitcoin Slips to $78,218 as Greed Holds at 69, and Pepeto Quietly Fills Its Stage”>Bitcoin ETFs recorded $147.3 million in combined outflows over two consecutive sessions, with $100.7 million withdrawn on September 9 following $46.6 million the prior day. Grayscale’s GBTC led redemptions at nearly $65.5 million, while BlackRock’s IBIT and Bitwise’s BITB attracted inflows of $10.7 million and $14.5 million respectively. Despite the withdrawals, September flows remain positive at approximately $622.7 million, bolstered by a $731 million inflow surge on September 3. Bitcoin’s slide below $80,000, coupled with Federal Reserve uncertainty, rising Treasury yields, and Brent crude surpassing $100 per barrel, has prompted institutional caution. The divergence among funds suggests investors are becoming more selective rather than exiting the asset class entirely.

Bitcoin ETF Investors Pull $147 Million in Two Days as Price Dips Below $80,000

A two-day stretch of withdrawals from U.S. spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds has interrupted what had been a strong September for institutional crypto investment, with $147.3 million exiting the products as the underlying asset slipped back below the $80,000 mark.

Investors pulled $100.7 million from the funds on September 9, a sharp acceleration from the $46.6 million redeemed one session earlier, according to data tracked by Onchain Lens. The consecutive outflows mark a notable shift after the month opened with a surge of institutional buying that had pushed Bitcoin above the psychologically important threshold.

The redemptions have not erased September’s gains. Onchain Lens estimates the funds have still accumulated roughly $622.7 million in net inflows since the start of the month, a cushion built largely on September 3, when approximately $731 million poured into the products in one of the strongest single sessions of the year. That allocation wave coincided with Bitcoin reclaiming $80,000 as investors reacted to monetary policy signals and regulatory developments in the cryptocurrency sector.

Buying momentum faded after the extended U.S. holiday weekend, however, and the latest flow data suggest institutions are reassessing their exposure.

The withdrawals were not evenly distributed across issuers. Grayscale’s GBTC bore the brunt of the selling, with nearly $65.5 million leaving the fund on September 8 alone Fidelity’s FBTC and Invesco’s BTCO also recorded losses during the period, though exact figures for those products were not disclosed

In contrast, two competing funds attracted fresh capital even as the broader category bled. BlackRock’s IBIT took in about $10.7 million, while Bitwise’s BITB pulled in roughly $14.5 million, partially offsetting the overall redemption figure. The divergence highlights how investors are becoming more selective among Bitcoin products rather than abandoning the asset class entirely.

    Fund Net Flow
    Grayscale (GBTC) -$65.5 million
    BlackRock (IBIT) +$10.7 million
    Bitwise (BITB) +$14.5 million
    Fidelity (FBTC) Outflow (amount unspecified)
    Invesco (BTCO) Outflow (amount unspecified)

    Macro pressures weigh on sentiment

The pullback in ETF flows comes against a backdrop of broader financial market unease. Bitcoin’s inability to hold above $80,000 has coincided with rising Treasury yields, which increase the opportunity cost of holding non-yielding assets, and a jump in oil prices that has rekindled inflation concerns. Brent crude moved above $100 per barrel on Wednesday, a development that could complicate expectations for the Federal Reserve’s upcoming interest rate decision.

Market participants are now weighing whether the central bank’s next policy move will support liquidity conditions or signal a more restrictive stance. For institutional investors managing exposure to volatile asset classes, the combination of higher yields, elevated energy costs, and monetary policy uncertainty has encouraged a more cautious posture.

Despite the two-day outflow streak, the overall picture for September remains constructive. The question now is whether the recent redemptions represent profit-taking after a strong run or the beginning of a more sustained retreat from Bitcoin investment vehicles. Upcoming flow data should offer clarity on institutional conviction, but for now the funds retain a substantial buffer of net inflows from earlier in the month.
