As trade disputes escalate, Trump claims the U.S. “urgently needs” Canadian aluminum
U.S. President Trump stated that the United States urgently needs aluminum, most of which comes from Canada. Trump plans to build an aluminum plant in Oklahoma to address the escalating U.S.-Canada trade dispute and the 50% metal tariff controversy.
More than half of the aluminum consumed in the United States each year is produced in Canada. The two sides were close to reaching an agreement to halve the aluminum tariff, but it faced opposition from the U.S. steel and aluminum industries.
