ZondaCrypto, once a major cryptocurrency exchange in Eastern and Central Europe, has effectively collapsed, with its founder and successor chief executive disappearing about four years apart. The exchange’s website is down and its in-house token has become virtually worthless.
Blockchain outlet U.Today reported on Aug. 23 that the ZondaCrypto website has been completely offline since April and its ZND token has lost 99.9 percent of its value. Withdrawal delays have followed, intensifying suspicions over the exchange’s operations and fund management.
ZondaCrypto began as BitBay, founded in 2014 by Sylwester Suszek (실베스테르 수셰크). Suszek, from Katowice in Poland, grew in the cryptocurrency market and was known as a so-called “crypto king”, maintaining a flashy lifestyle that included owning Porsches and Ferraris.
As local <a href="https://xpertsstudio.com/bitcoin-rally-fueled-by-etf-inflows-and-u-s-regulatory-tailwinds/” title=”Bitcoin rally fueled by ETF inflows and U.S. regulatory tailwinds”>regulatory scrutiny intensified, the exchange moved its registration to Estonia, and talk emerged among Suszek’s associates that his anxiety symptoms had worsened. His sister, Nicole Suszek (니콜 수셰크), said he became increasingly paranoid. An incident also occurred involving Suszek. An unidentified person smashed the windshield of his Ferrari with an axe, and a former business partner suspected of ties to organised crime was mentioned as being behind it.
Suszek disappeared after meeting Marian Brzolek (마리안 브숄레크) at a fuel storage facility in Chelmza, Poland, in March 2022. He later sent voice and text messages to his family saying he had been kidnapped and needed bitcoin to be released. It was also reported that the kidnappers threatened to cut off his finger over a debt issue.
Suszek has not reappeared since. Brzolek, who met him at the time, was indicted on charges of kidnapping and money laundering, but this person has also now disappeared.
After the founder went missing, his close associate and lawyer Przemyslaw Kral (프셰미스와프 크랄) took over management. The exchange changed its name to ZondaCrypto and moved to expand its external business. It carried out active promotional activities, signing sponsorship deals with major European football clubs and the Polish Olympic Committee.
Despite the outward expansion, internal conditions were unstable. The Estonian headquarters remained no more than a small office, and it ultimately faced a crackdown by local regulators.
From late 2025, customer withdrawal delays began in earnest. Kral initially described them as a technical issue, but later comments about the exchange’s reserves sparked fresh controversy.
Kral claimed ZondaCrypto securely held about 4,500 BTC. He said the only person who could access those holdings was the missing founder Suszek. Soon after explanations emerged that access to a large bitcoin reserve was effectively tied up while the founder was gone, Kral also disappeared.
ZondaCrypto customers are now having difficulty withdrawing funds. With the website down, the ZND token plunging and withdrawal delays continuing, the disappearance of both the founder and the successor CEO is further deepening suspicions over the exchange’s overall operations.
The outlet said the situation has also raised the possibility that the exchange’s operation itself may have been a long-running fraud. Market attention is now focused on whether customers can actually recover deposited funds, whether the whereabouts of the missing executives will be determined, and what follow-up measures Estonian authorities will take.
