Balancing security and ease of use in cryptocurrency self-custody remains difficult, Cointelegraph reported. The outlet said self-custody gives users direct control over assets by managing their own private keys, but complex security procedures remain a barrier to broader adoption. It added multi-signature wallets, which require multiple private keys to approve transactions, improve security while making key management and recovery more complicated. Seedless wallets, which eliminate recovery phrases, are easier to use, but users could permanently lose funds if all devices storing their private keys are lost.
In that context, Foundation CEO Zach Herbert said wallet funds can still be drained even without stealing private keys if users are tricked into approving malicious transactions.
