South Korea’s Financial Services Commission Chairman Lee Eog-weon said digital asset taxation should take multiple factors into account, while the government’s bill on a digital asset basic law tied to stablecoins is in the final stage of consultations, Edaily reported.
Speaking at a comprehensive parliamentary audit of the Financial Services Commission at the National Assembly in Seoul today, Lee made the remarks after People Power Party lawmaker Song Eon-seok asked whether the government should abolish or delay taxation on virtual asset income until a digital asset basic law is in place. Lee said the government bill was in last-minute consultations and would be moved forward as quickly as possible for discussion. On taxation, Lee said Deputy Prime Minister Lee Hyeong-il had already addressed the issue and added that authorities are gathering views amid a range of opinions, according to Edaily.
