    Layer-1 blockchain Solana said its next-generation consensus mechanism, Alpenglow, is pending activation on mainnet beta and is scheduled to go live at around slot 459,653,000 at 2:00 p.m. UTC on Oct. 21. Once Alpenglow is applied, the existing consensus mechanism, TowerBFT, will shut down within one slot.
