Sharjah police in the United Arab Emirates have uncovered four criminal groups linked to cryptocurrency wallet theft and money laundering, Khaleej Times reported. The investigation covered 33 people, including corporate entities.
According to police, the groups were found to have divided roles among system hacking and data theft, money laundering using cryptocurrency, stealing digital wallet assets through social engineering, and forcibly obtaining wallet passwords by assaulting victims. Police said they tracked the ringleaders and members after analyzing hundreds of pieces of digital evidence in an international investigation, then carried out a coordinated crackdown.
