Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin said the speed race for zero-knowledge Ethereum Virtual Machines, or zkEVMs, is over and the priority should now shift to security verification, according to U.Today.
Congratulating the zkSync (ZK) Airbender team on its proof-speed gains, Buterin said it had clearly won the speed race and that security should now become the top priority for zkEVMs. Buterin added developers should now mathematically verify whether the computations used in proving match Ethereum specifications, whether proof-generation costs have a strict upper bound relative to block gas usage, and whether the proving system itself is secure.
zkSync previously announced its prover, “Airbender Prime,” generated proofs for 99% of 7,200 Ethereum mainnet blocks in under 10 seconds per block using a single Nvidia RTX Pro 6000 Blackwell GPU, while the remaining blocks were processed in under 12 seconds.
