    Layer-1 blockchain Solana (SOL) said its new consensus protocol, Alpenglow, will be applied to mainnet beta at around 2:50 p.m. UTC on Oct. 21. Solana said the protocol was developed over 18 months and that the migration will take place within a single slot. Finality will be shortened to about 150 milliseconds from several seconds.
