A developer of the open-source electronic cash protocol Cashu has implemented a way to send tokens redeemable for Bitcoin from devices not connected to the internet by using Apple’s ‘Find My’ network, BeInCrypto reported. Under the method, a small device sends the token over Bluetooth in a signal similar to a lost AirTag alert, nearby iPhones relay it through the ‘Find My’ network, and the recipient reconstructs the token by collecting the signal.
The developer warned that the transmitted data is public, meaning anyone who obtains the token can use it, and recommended sending only small amounts that can be safely lost. The transfer process is also slow, and because it relies on Apple’s unofficial interface, it could stop working if Apple changes it.
