Japan’s Liberal Democratic Party is expected to take up prediction markets as a discussion item, local outlet Nada News reported, citing a party official. The topic would cover markets where participants trade on future events such as election results, economic indicators and Bitcoin (BTC) prices.
The report said the discussion has not yet advanced to a full review of establishing a legal framework, with the group planning first to share related information and assess market trends. It is also expected to hear views from U.S. prediction market platform Kalshi, Polymarket and Japanese operators before organizing the main issues. In Japan, a key concern is that prediction markets could be considered gambling under current law.
