Today stablecoin issuer Circle announced the launch of its Arc blockchain network, marking a major vertical integration move for the listed company. Participants include a broad range of high profile traditional financial institutions alongside well known digital natives. Initially the blockchain is public but permissioned, with institutional validators joining in phases.
The planned full list of validators includes BlackRock, DTCC, Galaxy, ICE, Mastercard, MoneyGram, SBI Group, Standard Chartered, Sumitomo Corporation, Visa and Worldpay (now Global Payments).
Arc is designed to feel like conventional payments infrastructure. Gas is paid in USDC rather than a volatile token, settlement is sub second, and opt in privacy is planned. At the same time it launches with functionality that goes well beyond payments, including StableFX, its foreign exchange protocol, and integrations with automated market maker Uniswap and lending protocol Morpho, and infrastructure for AI agents to transact autonomously using USDC.
Circle’s footprint already spans stablecoins, a money market fund, wallet technology and cross chain interoperability. Arc and StableFX extend that vertically. The horizontal moves are more notable. While Arc will inevitably be classified as a payments ledger, at launch it will also support tokenized funds from BlackRock and Janus Henderson alongside Circle’s own USYC. A Bermudan Circle subsidiary is launching wrapped <a href="https://xpertsstudio.com/fed-raises-interest-rates-by-25-bps-bitcoin-price-reacts/” title=”Fed Raises Interest Rates by 25 Bps, Bitcoin Price Reacts”>bitcoin, cirBTC, and a different subsidiary will provide bitcoin lending services.
