Solana News: Solana Reassesses Security After $280M Drift Exploit as Markets Roil
The Solana ecosystem is reassessing its security practices after hackers drained one of the network’s best-known decentralized trading platforms.
The fallout from the roughly $280 million Drift exploit landed as SOL continued to trade unevenly against a backdrop of Middle East tensions, rising oil prices, and broader macro uncertainty.
The breach also pushed emerging threats higher on the agenda, with experts warning that artificial intelligence and quantum computing could make blockchains harder to secure.
SOL Wobbles Amid Macro Jitters
Cryptocurrencies sold off this week amid macro turmoil
SOL remained under pressure this week as traders reacted to another burst of geopolitical headlines.
<a href="https://xpertsstudio.com/bitcoin-miner-signal-suggests-potential-40-price-rally/” title=”Bitcoin Miner Signal Suggests Potential 40% Price Rally”>Bitcoin (BTC) briefly jumped on reports of a possible ceasefire in Iran, only to give back those gains after the proposal appeared to stall.
As of Tuesday, Bitcoin gained just over 1% week-over-week (WoW), while Ethereum (ETH) ended the week roughly flat and SOL dropped more than 4%, CoinMarketCap data shows.
Traders are now watching a deadline set by President Donald Trump for Iran to accept a deal, adding another layer of uncertainty to markets already parsing mixed U.S. economic signals and an unclear path for Federal Reserve policy.
The Solana ecosystem ended the week modestly lower, slipping from roughly $126 billion to $123 billion in market capitalization
Among larger ecosystem tokens, Uniswap (UNI) was the biggest loser, down about 13% week-over-week, while Render (RENDER) was the strongest gainer, rising nearly 10%.
Solana Foundation Ups Security Efforts After Drift Hack
Solana is upping its security efforts after the Drift exploit
The Solana Foundation is working to tighten defenses for decentralized finance protocols in the wake of last week’s Drift exploit.
On Monday, the Foundation launched STRIDE, a new security evaluation program run by Asymmetric Research.
The program offers active threat monitoring to Solana DeFi protocols that have more than $10 million in total value locked.
The push came just days after the April 1 hack of Drift, one of the most damaging breaches to hit the Solana ecosystem this year.
According to Drift, the exploit stemmed from a six-month operation by a North Korean state-linked group that first posed as a quantitative trading firm, then built trust with contributors, and finally struck.
Drift said the attackers manipulated key decision-makers into approving actions in advance, then used those approvals later to seize control and drain funds.
