As Wall Street steps up efforts around blockchain-based 24-hour trading and asset tokenization, global financial firms are pouring money into crypto data provider Kaiko.
Bloomberg reported on September 14 that S&P Global led Kaiko’s latest funding round. Participants also included DRW Holdings, Susquehanna, Royal Bank of Canada, Nasdaq, BNP Paribas, Coinbase Ventures and Stellar. The round has now grown to $110 million.
Kaiko plans to use the funds to develop new products and services. Chief Executive Officer Ambre Soubiran did not disclose the company’s valuation.
The investment comes as tokenization spreads across Wall Street, where traditional financial assets including stocks, bonds and funds are increasingly being issued and transferred on blockchain networks. In a market that trades around the clock, infrastructure capable of delivering real-time data for pricing, collateral valuation and risk management stands to become more critical.
Traditional financial markets trade within set opening and closing hours, and closing prices serve as a key benchmark for valuing assets. Crypto markets, by contrast, have operated 24 hours a day from the outset, allowing firms such as Kaiko to collect and process price data in real time.
“A 24-hour market needs infrastructure that runs 24 hours a day,” Kim Trautmann, head of DRW Venture Capital, said. As more assets and use cases move on-chain, pricing, collateral management and risk controls will also need to function in real time.
Kaiko’s new investors will also participate in an industry group focused on establishing data and infrastructure standards for future tokenized products.
“Tokenization is becoming a reality,” Soubiran said. “Data is needed to apply tokenized assets to real-world use cases.”
Founded in 2014, Kaiko provides market data, analytics and indexes to financial institutions and crypto firms. Earlier this month, it launched the S&P Kaiko Digital Asset Indices by combining its crypto index business with S&P Dow Jones Indices.
The company has about 120 employees worldwide. It also recently acquired US crypto data provider Amberdata and crypto infrastructure firm Cometh.
