    Quick overview

    • Bitcoin opened the week at $77,529, showing a slight increase of 0.6% over the past day, but faces significant selling pressure and macroeconomic challenges.
    • This week is pivotal with key events including the Senate’s procedural vote on the CLARITY Act, the Fed’s rate decision, and other major economic indicators from Japan and the UK.
    • ETF flows indicate a mixed sentiment, with institutions buying the dip but also trimming positions at higher prices, reflecting uncertainty rather than strong conviction.
    • On-chain data suggests long-term holders are not selling, while the Fed’s anticipated rate hike could impact market dynamics significantly.

Bitcoin opened the week at $77,529, up 0.6% over the past day. The price is holding, but it’s holding carefully. Selling pressure has eased off, yet nothing about the macro setup makes it easy to push higher. The $80,000 level has been a ceiling for a while now, and this week has more potential to break things in either direction than most weeks this year.

The calendar is the story. Tuesday brings the CLARITY Act’s procedural vote in the Senate. Wednesday is the Fed’s rate decision. Thursday the Bank of England weighs in. Friday wraps up with Japan’s CPI, a BOJ decision, and quarterly US options expiry all landing on the same day. Add to that Trump agreeing over the weekend to let state attorneys general sue over CLARITY Act violations, and the week has the feel of something that could move markets significantly, whatever way it tips.

ETF flows tell a useful story about where things stand heading in. Between August 19 and September 4, US spot Bitcoin funds pulled in $3.34 billion, pushing BTC from around $62,000 to $82,000. Then, over the final four US trading sessions before today, those same funds shed $462.7 million combined. Institutions bought the dip hard, and they’ve been trimming at higher prices. That’s not panic, but it’s not conviction either.

On-chain data looks better than the ETF numbers. Glassnode’s Sell-Side Risk Ratio has dropped to 7 basis points per day from 16 at the August peak. Long-term holders accounted for only 47% of realized profits last week, down sharply from 88% in August. In plain terms, the people who have held Bitcoin through multiple cycles aren’t the ones selling right now.

The Fed decision Wednesday carries the most weight. Markets are pricing an 86% chance of a 25-basis-point rate hike The 10-year Treasury yield is near 4.97% and Brent crude has crossed $107 a barrel, both pointing in an inflationary direction that gives the Fed little room to pause

On the legislative side, Senate Republicans released a revised CLARITY Act Sunday night with ethics language Trump has signed off on. Polymarket odds on the bill passing this year climbed to 31% after the release. That’s not high, but it moved, and the market noticed.

Ethereum is at $2,513. XRP is at $1.38. Altcoins have been uneven, with Solana down nearly 4% over seven days and BNB off 3.2%, while ETH has managed less than half a percent gain over the same stretch.

For bitcoin, $76,600 is the support level traders are watching most closely. Below that, $71,000 is the next meaningful reference point. How the week’s events land will likely decide which one gets tested first.
