On September 9, the independent website world.xyz of the Solana prediction market platform World officially launched, opening access to over 1 million waitlist users. Markets cover all NFL regular season games, 7 major football leagues, F1, the 2026 midterm elections, and the next Fed interest rate decision.
Since July, World had been operating embedded within the Phantom wallet and had cumulatively launched over 150,000 markets. However, on the launch day of the independent site, traffic far exceeded expectations, causing the website to be overloaded and go offline.
According to a post from World’s official account in the early hours of September 10, the day’s traffic was enough to “literally overload the site.” As a precaution, the team temporarily shut down the website for repairs, emphasizing that all funds are safe and reward activities will resume after fixes. As of the time of writing, the website has not yet resumed operation.
The direct driver of this traffic surge was the official launch of a first-trade reward activity.
According to community feedback, the activity process involves creating an account, linking an X account, completing one prediction trade, and then claiming a reward settled in Phantom’s dollar stablecoin, CASH. The official did not disclose a fixed reward schedule. Rewards vary by individual, time period, and eligibility. Some users reported receiving $378, while the community reported that the maximum could be around the $500 level.
Crypto blogger Chen Xiaomeng posted that rewards are correlated with X account follower count, with 10,000 followers corresponding to approximately $80. This claim has not been officially confirmed, but the community generally sees this as the likely logic behind the activity design. Technical issues also arose during the process, with some users reporting that deposited USDC did not arrive, deposit addresses changed after refreshing, or rewards were not received after completing a trade. Participation was restricted in some countries, meaning not all global users could claim rewards.
In fact, World entered the public eye even earlier. Foresight News published a report on June 30 titled “World, Yet to Formally Introduce Itself, Appears in Phantom Prediction Market Disclosures,” when World had not yet launched specific features but had already appeared in Phantom’s prediction market disclosures.
World’s settlement system is built entirely around the stablecoin CASH. CASH is a dollar stablecoin designed by Phantom for everyday use, pegged 1:1 to the US dollar, and issued by Bridge and Stripe’s Open Issuance platform. World’s prediction contracts are presented in a binary “Yes/No” format, with both opening and settlement conducted in CASH. Users can exchange USDC or SOL for CASH on the frontend to participate in trading, with profits, rewards, and position closures all settled in CASH. This design means every trade on World creates a use case for Phantom’s stablecoin, rather than relying on external settlement assets like USDC.
Phantom’s support for World goes beyond wallet connection. According to Phantom’s disclosure page, starting June 1, 2024, new prediction positions opened within Phantom are provided by World Prediction Markets, whereas previously this entry point used Kalshi and DFlow. By embedding World first, Phantom directly taps into the existing traffic of Solana’s largest consumer-facing wallet, which is key to its ability to accumulate over 50,000 unique predictors in a short period.
After the independent site launched, both paths operate in parallel. Phantom provides the frontend, wallet, Cash account, and user distribution; World provides the market protocol, order routing, and settlement logic; and Chainlink provides high-speed market data and automated settlement token holder voting mechanisms
From a data perspective, World still has a significant gap compared to mainstream platforms. According to Dune data, World’s total prediction trading volume is approximately $31 million, with about 53,600 unique predictors. In contrast, Dune data shows Polymarket’s total weekly trading volume around August 17, 2024, was approximately $2.34 billion, with about 573,000 active addresses in July.
World’s choice to use a first-trade reward instead of points or an airdrop for user acquisition is pragmatic given this competitive landscape. The requirement to link an X account helps identify real users and filter out bots, while leveraging social spread to expand reach. If the community speculation about rewards being tied to follower count is true, it suggests World prefers to attract users with some influence, rather than simply pursuing address count. According to official information, World currently has no points program and has not announced a token issuance plan.
From the perspective of the Solana ecosystem, World’s user acquisition activity serves two goals simultaneously: attracting new users to the Phantom wallet and expanding the circulation scale of the CASH stablecoin. According to CoinMarketCap data, CASH’s current market cap is approximately $125 million, a vast gap compared to USDT’s $188.38 billion and USDC’s $74.31 billion. Every trade and reward distribution on World increases the actual demand for CASH usage, while Phantom, as Solana’s largest consumer-facing wallet, provides a potential distribution network for CASH.
Whether World can retain users after the trade reward activity ends and convert first-time traders into long-term users remains to be seen.
