The <a href="https://xpertsstudio.com/xrp-beats-bitcoin-ethereum-and-solana-in-latest-etf-performance/” title=”XRP Beats Bitcoin, Ethereum and Solana in Latest ETF Performance”>Bitcoin price is recovering towards $80,000, but a sustained break above recent highs is needed to strengthen the case for another rally.
The Bitcoin price climbed back above $79,000 on Wednesday after two daily declines, retaining most of August’s 25% gain as investors weighed renewed institutional demand against this week’s US inflation risk.
At the time of writing, BTC/USD was up 1.02% at $79,216, following Tuesday’s close near $78,420.
We believe the recovery leaves Bitcoin well placed to challenge resistance again, although the price has yet to confirm another breakout.
The immediate test lies around $81,300-$82,100, with this month’s high in our pricing data at $82,087.
Beyond that area, Bitfinex sees scope for a relatively quick advance towards $86,500, while Standard Chartered’s latest public assessment leaves its $100,000 year-end forecast intact.
What would confirm a Bitcoin breakout?
Bitfinex’s September 9 analysis identifies $81,300 as the upper boundary of its recent trading range, with relatively little historical trading activity between there and $86,500.
Its analysts expect a break above that boundary to allow prices to advance more quickly through the intervening area.
“Any selling is currently concentrated and well absorbed.”
However, Bitfinex still expects trading inside the existing range until a break occurs, and identifies $77,100 as the level below which its medium-term uptrend would be invalidated.
We would look for a sustained close above $82,100, followed by buyers defending that area on a pullback, before treating the latest rebound as a fresh advance.
A brief spike above $80,000 would offer less convincing evidence, given Bitcoin has already traded above that level several times this month.

Standard Chartered sees $100,000, with upside risk
Standard Chartered’s Geoff Kendrick retained his $100,000 end-2026 forecast in August, but suggested the recovery could carry Bitcoin towards its previous record near $126,000.
“For the first time this year there is now a risk my end year forecast (of USD100k) is too low,” he wrote.
Kendrick linked his improved assessment to recovering spot ETF inflows and room for investors to rebuild positions following substantial short liquidations.
The $126,000 possibility is an upside scenario, rather than a replacement for the bank’s $100,000 central forecast.
BTC Forecasts: Bernstein’s bullish outlook contrasts with Citi
Bernstein’s August 26 projections envisage Bitcoin returning to around $125,000 by the end of 2026 and reaching $150,000 by mid-2027.
The brokerage argues that government debt pressures could encourage investors to seek scarce assets, with wider institutional access supporting Bitcoin demand.
Its more optimistic scenario puts Bitcoin at $200,000 by mid-2027, conditional on institutional buying accelerating.
Citi offers a considerably more cautious comparison.
Its latest public revision we could verify, reported in July, lowered its 12-month Bitcoin target to $82,000 from $112,000, citing weaker ETF demand and delays to US crypto legislation.
That forecast predates August’s rally and should be read against the weaker market conditions prevailing when it was issued.

ETF buying and inflation could decide the next move
Farside Investors records $730.8 million entering US spot Bitcoin ETFs on September 3, followed by another $174.6 million on September 4.
Tuesday brought $46.6 million of net withdrawals, however, interrupting the buying streak.
Friday’s US consumer-price report is the next scheduled test of interest-rate expectations.
Bitfinex also reports that options traders have increased protection around the September 16 Federal Reserve decision, suggesting investors are preparing for volatility rather than assuming an uninterrupted rally.
Our near-term view is cautiously bullish while Bitcoin holds above $77,100, with $86,500 becoming more credible only after resistance around $82,100 gives way.
If buyers lose $77,100, attention would shift towards this month’s low near $76,300, weakening the case for an imminent breakout.
