Police in Karachi, Pakistan, have obtained records of the cryptocurrency trading of 25-year-old businessman Mir Raza Ali, whose body with a gunshot wound was found in the Gulistan-i-Jauhar area in July. Dawn reports, citing an unnamed police official.
According to the official, through the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency, police obtained four years of data on Ali’s involvement in cryptocurrency futures trading on the Binance platform. The records indicate that he had been engaged in such trading for the past four years.
Friend’s testimony
The deceased’s friend, Abdul Hasem, previously told a judicial commission that both of them traded cryptocurrencies. According to him, he stopped doing so after incurring losses, while Ali was successful in trading.
A one-member judicial commission chaired by Sindh High Court judge Omar Sial regularly holds hearings into the circumstances of Ali’s death and possible negligence in the case. Last month, law enforcement officers approached the cybercrime investigation agency to obtain digital data and information about Ali’s WhatsApp account and examine possible suspicious circumstances.

Course of the investigation
Mir Raza Ali went missing on July 28, and his body was found in bushes in Karachi the following day. The deceased’s family accused police of attempting to conceal facts, as the investigation initially considered suicide as a possible explanation.
Following an appeal by Ali’s father, a Karachi court on August 6 allowed the exhumation of the body and ordered a repeat autopsy. The final report of the repeat forensic examination established that death was caused by a rupture of the heart resulting from a through-and-through gunshot wound to the chest. The entry wound was in the back and the exit wound was in the front of the chest. The document stated that the findings were incompatible with the suicide theory.
The investigative team in the case was replaced, and a murder charge was added to the first information report. On September 2, the Sindh High Court rejected the family’s petition to create an independent interagency investigative team, stating that the formation of such a body is the government’s prerogative.
