Bitcoin recorded 893,391 confirmed on-chain transactions on Sunday, Sep. 6, its fourth-largest daily transaction count in the network’s history the research arm of Galaxy, a global digital assets and data center infrastructure company
The figure sits above the 99th percentile of Bitcoin’s entire historical range, meaning only a handful of days since the network launched in 2009 have seen more activity.
On-chain transactions refer to transfers of Bitcoin that are recorded directly on the blockchain, the network’s shared public ledger. The count serves as a baseline measure of how much the network is being used on any given day, though it understates total economic activity because techniques like transaction batching and Layer 2 networks such as the Lightning Network bundle multiple payments into single on-chain entries.
A usage spike amid a price pullback
The transaction surge came during a volatile stretch for Bitcoin’s price. The leading cryptocurrency briefly climbed above $82,000 last Thursday, reaching a more than 3-month high of roughly $82,178, before retreating sharply.
The pullback followed Friday’s U.S. jobs report, which showed employers added 162,000 jobs in August, nearly triple what economists expected, while unemployment held at 4.1%.

The stronger-than-expected data pushed markets to price a roughly 60% probability of a Federal Reserve rate hike at the Sep. 15–16 meeting, up from 49% before the report Higher interest rates tend to weigh on Bitcoin and other speculative assets by raising the cost of holding investments that don’t generate yield
Rising oil prices added to the pressure. Brent crude climbed to around $97 a barrel on Sep. 7 after the U.S. military recently struck three Iranian oil tankers, escalating tensions in the Middle East.
The disconnect between surging on-chain activity and a softening price suggests the network is seeing heavy use even as broader macro conditions push traders toward caution.
