The White House is reviewing candidates to fill four vacant seats at the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission, according to BeInCrypto. Two of the openings are being considered for Democratic nominees, although current law does not require the appointment of opposition-party commissioners.
The CFTC has five seats, with no more than three commissioners allowed from the same party. The commission is currently being led by Chairman Michael Selig alone. If the White House adds only two Republican commissioners, the panel could shift to a 3-0 partisan split. If Democratic commissioners also join, the process of introducing rules tied to crypto perpetual futures and margin trading could face a longer review and public comment period, the outlet said.
