Solana is auctioning nine advertising slots on its official logo, with 100% of the proceeds going toward flood relief efforts in Nepal. The initiative, run jointly by the Solana Foundation and Mallow Labs, has already raised more than $158,000, with the 24-hour bidding window still underway.
What Prompted This
On August 26, a glacier above the Trishuli River collapsed, triggering flash floods that damaged homes, roads, bridges, and critical infrastructure across communities in Nepal. In response, Solana and Mallow partnered to turn the network’s most visible piece of branding, its official X profile picture, into a fundraising vehicle.
How the Auction Works
The Solana logo has been divided into nine separate advertising zones, each available for bidding. Here’s how it functions:
- Bidders select a zone and place a bid
- The highest bid on each zone at the end of the 24-hour window wins that spot
- Winners can bid on and win multiple zones if they choose
- Bids cannot be withdrawn once placed; if a bidder is outbid, their funds are automatically returned to their wallet
Winning bidders will have their brand logo or artwork displayed on Solana’s official X profile picture and pinned post for one week after the auction closes.
Where the Money Goes
According to the auction’s organizers, every dollar raised is being donated to the Nepal Relief Fund. Donations are collected transparently onchain by Engage Nepal, a US-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit led by former US Ambassador Scott DeLisi, and then routed to the Government of Nepal’s official Prime Minister Disaster Relief Fund.
Shift in Crypto Philanthropy
Solana’s approach shows a pattern among crypto organizations. Rather than simply soliciting direct donations, projects are increasingly building market-based incentives into fundraising efforts. In this case, that meant tapping into existing corporate demand for brand visibility, turning what would otherwise be a passive donation appeal into a competitive auction with a tangible reward attached.

- Confirm you’re using the official auction link shared directly by Solana’s verified account, rather than links shared by unverified third parties
- Be cautious of copycat or lookalike auction pages designed to mimic the real one, a common tactic during high-visibility charity events
- Verify wallet addresses and transaction details before confirming any bid, since bids cannot be reversed once placed
With bidding still underway, the final figures and winning brands are yet to be confirmed. However, the campaign already demonstrates how blockchain networks can turn attention into capital, using market-driven mechanisms to support real-world causes while maintaining transparency.
