Hyperliquid’s HYPE token broke above $85 to set a new all-time high on August 27, gaining 5% in 24 hours amid a broad altcoin rally. Open interest rose to nearly $3.9 billion, with futures volume running about 17 times spot volume. Solana led major altcoins with an 11.45% daily gain, followed by Monero, XRP and Chainlink. The wider market showed renewed momentum, with Bitcoin up roughly 6% and Ethereum gaining about 22% over the week. Capital flows into altcoins reached approximately $215 billion over three days, though the Altcoin Season Index remained at 39, below the 75 threshold signaling a full altcoin season. Analysts identified HYPE, Zcash and Solana as closely watched assets, while cautioning that leverage could amplify moves in either direction.
Key Elements

Hyperliquid’s HYPE token pushed through its previous record to trade above $85 on August 27, extending a broad advance across major altcoins that saw Solana lead the field with a double-digit daily gain.
HYPE reached approximately $85.26 at the time of writing The token gained about 5% over 24 hours and 16.8% during the week. The breakout developed over several sessions, with HYPE first touching $83.60 on August 23 before retreating toward the zone that had capped earlier rallies. Buyers defended the former resistance area around $77-$78, which market participants identified as the main support protecting the new market structure
The move through $83.60 removed the last recorded price ceiling and opened the route above $85. Fresh positions entered during the rally, with open interest reaching nearly $3.9 billion, up roughly 10% from the $3.5 billion recorded during the previous record attempt. More futures positions remained active as HYPE moved higher, showing that traders committed fresh leveraged exposure to the breakout.
Derivatives dominated trading activity. Futures turnover reached about 17 times the reported spot volume, with futures volume at $4.53 billion compared with $263.8 million in spot trading. The $5.55 million liquidation total equaled approximately 0.14% of open interest, suggesting the advance drew support from new positioning rather than a forced squeeze.
Hyperliquid’s business model connects platform activity with demand for HYPE. Qualifying trading fees enter the Assistance Fund, which purchases the token on the open market. The acquired HYPE is treated as burned and removed from circulation. The platform generated approximately $6.2 million in daily fees during one of its strongest sessions earlier this week, adding a recurring
Solana recorded the day’s strongest advance at 11.45%, trading near $107. Monero followed at 7.4%, with XRP and Chainlink gaining more than 6%. Dogecoin’s 5.3% move placed HYPE near the middle of the leading group. Ethereum, Zcash and BNB cleared the 2% threshold with smaller daily advances. Zcash already carried a 41.4% weekly gain, giving it the most extended seven-day move in the snapshot.

The breadth reduced HYPE’s dependence on token-specific demand during the breakout. Several high-volatility assets moved together, showing that traders were increasing crypto exposure across multiple parts of the market.
The wider crypto market showed renewed momentum. Bitcoin rose approximately 6% over 24 hours, while Ethereum gained about 22% over the past week. Total crypto market capitalization stood near $2.65 trillion, with Bitcoin dominance at 59.81%. The Altcoin Season Index remained at 39, well below the 75 level that would signal a broad altcoin season, though capital flows pointed to growing interest outside Bitcoin.
CryptoQuant data showed approximately $215 billion in capital flowing into altcoins over a three-day period, while Glassnode data indicated that 85% of altcoins had funding rates above average. These developments suggest investor interest was shifting toward assets beyond Bitcoin, even if a full altcoin season had not yet materialized.
Analysts tracking Zcash noted the token traded around $560 during the week and could reach $600 if Bitcoin continued its advance, representing roughly an 8% gain from current levels. The same analysts cautioned that leverage in such trades carries elevated risk, particularly at higher multiples.
For HYPE, the former $83.60 record is now the first area buyers need to hold. A sustained return below it would place the token back inside its previous range, with the wider $77-$78 zone as the next major support. Three developments would signal growing pressure: open interest continuing to rise as price stalls, spot volume falling further behind futures activity, and long liquidations accelerating during a move below $83.60.
A stable price accompanied by cooling open interest would allow some leverage to leave without damaging the breakout. Stronger spot participation would also spread the rally across a broader pool of buyers. At $85, HYPE has no established chart resistance overhead. The next evidence will come during its first pullback, when the market shows how much of the breakout came from committed buyers and how much relied on leverage.
