Key Points:
- U.S. PCE inflation may determine the next move in gold and Bitcoin.
- A Bitcoin breakout above $82,000 could open the way toward $105,000.
- The Bitcoin-to-gold ratio remains constructive above long-term support.

Gold (XAU) and Bitcoin (BTC) have moved higher together as investors question the strength of the U.S. dollar and the outlook for U.S. fiscal policy. Gold is holding near a three-month high while Bitcoin briefly moved above $81,000 before giving back part of the advance. Both assets can attract demand when confidence in government currencies weakens. But they do not carry the same risk. Gold remains the more defensive store of value. Bitcoin offers greater upside potential but it also reacts more sharply to liquidity and market sentiment.
Gold prices remain strong on Wednesday above $4,600 after a strong rally last week. The next move in precious metals now depends on the July U.S. PCE inflation data to be released on Wednesday. Softer inflation may ease pressure on the Fed to raise rates. This could reduce real yields and support gold. But stronger than expected PCE data may support the US dollar and Treasury yields. This could lead to profit taking in gold following the strong rally in August.
Bitcoin consolidates around $79,000 after marking a high of $81,265 on Tuesday. The price is up over 25% in August but the pullback on Wednesday suggests that some individuals are taking profits at the recent high. The demand for ETFs also remains high and provides a boost to the market. Spot Bitcoin ETFs in the U.S. have seen approximately $314.3 million in inflows on August 25. It was also the seventh consecutive positive session, bringing inflows to just under $2.57 billion during the streak. The sustained buying indicates that the rally is not just a short covering and is also supported by spot demand.
Gold and Bitcoin prices are responding to the same broad concern. The U.S. Treasury’s plan to buy back more long-dated bonds is affecting markets. This move weakened the US dollar and revived the debasement trade. The gold price also benefits in times of fiscal uncertainty and demand for safer assets. Bitcoin is riskier variant of the same trade and is more sensitive to ETF flows and liquidity. Some immediate geopolitical pressure eased as Iran and Oman began negotiating on the Strait of Hormuz. The drop in oil prices also eases inflation concerns.
Bitcoin Price Technical Analysis: $82,000 Breakout Targets $105,000
The weekly chart for Bitcoin shows that the price produced a strong surge last week from the long-term support region of $60,000 to $65,000 as discussed in the previous analysis. Bitcoin gained 23.70% last week and reached the key resistance at $82,000. A break above $82,000 will likely open the door for further upside toward $105,000. Last week’s price action in Bitcoin suggests a short term bullish trend.
The chart below further highlights the importance of the current $60,000 level. The price rebounded exactly from the descending trend line of the wedge that stretches from the April 2024 highs. The price is now challenging the 50 SMA on the weekly chart. A break above $82,000 will trigger strong move toward the $105,000 area. The RSI has also moved above the midline, which points to a positive price outlook in the Bitcoin market.
The emergence of the rounding pattern from 2021 to 2024 suggests that the price will continue to accelerate higher within the ascending channel pattern.
The 4-hour chart also shows constructive price action. The key resistance at $67,000 was broken on August 19, 2026. After the breakout, the price continued to accelerate with stronger momentum to reach a high at $81,265 on Tuesday.
Bitcoin vs. Gold Ratio Holds Key Long-Term Support
The monthly chart for the Bitcoin to gold ratio shows that the ratio has been consolidating above the support of the ascending channel since February 2026. The ratio gained over 9% in August after 6% gain in July. This bullish momentum builds energy for a rally in the ratio to the 35 level.
Bitcoin rebounds from the long-term support of $60,000 toward $80,000, which indicates a strong recovery. But the recovery is still at an early stage. The ratio must break above the 19 level in the short term to keep the rally on track toward 35. But if Bitcoin prices fail to break above $82,000 in the short term and continue to drop below $60,000, the ratio will likely break below 12. As long as the 12 level holds, the possibility that Bitcoin prices will mark a low here and initiate the next strong surge remains high.
Bottom Line
The outlook for gold and Bitcoin remains positive as the US dollar remains weak and fiscal concerns support the demand for alternative assets. The PCE inflation data may determine the next move in both markets. Gold may extend the rally if real yields decline while Bitcoin must break above $82,000 to continue toward $105,000. The strong ETF inflows and the recovery in the Bitcoin to gold ratio support the bullish outlook. But a break below $60,000 would weaken the Bitcoin structure. For now, both markets remain constructive as long as their key support levels hold.
