Social media platform X is preparing to roll out a button that lets users trade digital assets directly from their timeline. Former head of product Nikita Bier said the trading button will follow the Cashtags feature he created. Cashtags, which displays Solana and Ethereum charts directly in posts, launched in the U.S. and Canada in April and generated roughly $1 billion in trading volume within 48 hours. Bier dismissed claims that X itself sparked the crypto rally, instead pointing to the U.S. Treasury Department’s expanded long-term bond purchases and a weakening dollar as the primary drivers. Bitcoin is trading around $80,643, up 24.5% over the past month. No specific launch date has been set for the trading button.
Key Elements

Social media platform X (formerly Twitter) is set to introduce a feature allowing users to trade digital assets directly from their timeline. Former X head of product Nikita Bier announced on his X account on the 25th (local time) that a trading button will be added following the “Cashtags” feature, which displays Solana (SOL) and Ethereum (ETH) price charts directly in posts.
He made the remarks while responding directly to a user who criticized that “a bull market could begin because Bier no longer shadowbans Crypto Twitter (CT).” Shadowbanning refers to limiting post visibility without notifying the account owner.
Bier countered, “Before I joined, X had zero features for crypto traders,” noting that he created Cashtags and that a trading button would soon be added. He also explained that the platform supports a feature that pulls up relevant information when users paste a newly issued token’s contract address into a post.
Contract address verification is particularly critical in crypto trading. Since scam tokens frequently impersonate legitimate projects by copying their names, investors must verify addresses before sending funds. Once X’s trading button is introduced, users will no longer need to navigate to a wallet or exchange after discovering a token—one-tap ordering becomes possible.
X first launched Cashtags in April for iPhone users in the U.S. and Canada. The pilot program is estimated to have generated approximately $1 billion (about 1.4 trillion won) in trading volume within 48 hours. In May, X added real-time stock charts to the same feature.
However, Bier dismissed claims that X itself triggered the current crypto rally. Instead, he pointed to the U.S. Treasury Department’s bond purchases and the dollar’s depreciation as the primary factors. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent expanded the long-term bond purchase program by at least twofold on the 20th. Since then, criticism has mounted over the $950 billion (about 1,314.2 trillion won) purchase plan and its funding mechanism.
The market moved quickly either way. Bitcoin (BTC) is trading around $80,643, up 4.25% on the day and 24.5% over the past month. Gold recorded its best monthly performance since 1999.
Bier stepped down from his product chief role this month and remains as an advisor, meaning the trading button’s launch will be led by his successor. As a result, the exact timing is uncertain. X has rolled out charts, volume data, and address lookup features sequentially, but the buy button that would turn the timeline into an order book remains the final step.
Neither Bier nor X has announced a launch date. Cashtags still only supports certain markets, and observers note that coverage would need to expand before a buy button can be introduced.
