Wall Street’s appetite for crypto has turned to altcoins, with nearly $90 million in net inflows to alternative crypto ETFs during the week.

XRP▲$1.13, Solana plus Hyperliquid’s HYPE▲$70.78 are the biggest winners as the Wall Street altcoin rotation gains pace. But will it turn into a broader altseason?

Wall Street Is Moving Into Altcoins: Why XRP, Solana and HYPE Are Winning

Nearly $90M Flows Into Altcoin ETFs in One Week

Altcoin ETF inflows reached nearly 90 million during the week. That sets a sign that the institutional appetite for crypto is diversifying beyond Bitcoin and Ether.

Still, the figure remains dwarfed by the inflows in the Bitcoin category. Meanwhile, the development is nevertheless significant, as regulated financial products make alternative crypto-tokens more accessible to institutional investors.

Why Institutional Demand Is Concentrating in Three Tokens

The institutional interest in altcoins appears to be concentrated in three assets, suggesting that liquidity, utility narrative and accessibility play a role in their selection.

XRP offers exposure to the payment settlement narrative, Solana’s smart contract blockchain provides diversification, and Hyperliquid’s HYPE represents a leveraged position in the decentralized trading space.

Is This the Start of a Broader Altcoin Rotation?

Probably not, at least not yet. For the institutional altcoin rotation to gather pace, crypto-ETF inflows in multiple asset classes need to be seen on a consistent basis, alongside Bitcoin’s sideways trend and the general risk-on environment.

For now, Wall Street’s interest in crypto remains concentrated in a small group of tokens.

XRP Is Leading the Institutional Altcoin Trade

XRP ETF Inflows Hit a Six-Week Winning Streak

XRP’s ETF inflows have been positive for six consecutive weeks, putting the token ahead of its altcoin peers in terms of institutional appeal.

While a strong week in inflows can be the result of tactical positioning, the combination of several consecutive weeks of buying suggests that the institutional investors are accumulating the asset on a sustained basis.

Why XRP Is Attracting More Capital Than Most Altcoins

XRP benefits from strong liquidity, a substantial market cap and a long-standing development history, which makes it appealing to institutional buyers in search of reliable exposure to the cryptocurrency market.

Moreover, the token’s close ties to the payment settlement space provide investors with an attractive utility narrative. And with the recent introduction of Exchange Traded Notes, institutional investors can now access XRP with greater ease.

Can the CLARITY Act Trigger Another Wave of XRP Buying?

More clarity around the regulatory framework surrounding crypto-asset trading, custody, and settlement will likely lead to increased institutional interest in the space.

And because XRP is one of the largest tokens by market value, with a deep liquidity pool, enhanced regulatory certainty may have a significant effect on institutional buying in the token.

Solana Has the Strongest ETF Growth Story

Solana ETF Assets Are Growing Faster Than Bitcoin and Ethereum

While Bitcoin and Ethereum retain their lead over alternative platforms in terms of institutional adoption, Solana’s ETF assets exhibit a much stronger growth trajectory.

The reason why Solana’s growth potential appeals to institutional buyers is simple: demand for the token and products built atop its blockchain has the capacity to grow exponentially.

Why Alpenglow Could Strengthen the SOL Investment Case

Solana’s upcoming Alpenglow update will see the network’s infrastructure reworked on a fundamental level, bringing greater reliability and performance to the blockchain.

From an institutional standpoint, the upgrade will likely contribute to the network’s appeal as an infrastructure layer for trading venues, stablecoins, custodial solutions and more.

What Would Send Institutional SOL Demand Higher?

Increased institutional adoption of Solana will likely be driven by the network’s growing user base, expanding utility and greater accessibility.

The rising adoption of stablecoins, trading platforms and custodial services built atop Solana will provide validation for institutional investors. If the token’s demand trajectory mirrors its bullish narrative, increased institutional allocation will drive higher inflows into Solana’s ETFs.

HYPE Is the Wild Card in Wall Street’s Altcoin Bet

    Why Hyperliquid Attracted Institutional Money

Unlike XRP and Solana, Hyperliquid’s HYPE does not offer institutional investors a familiar on-ramp or a utility narrative. Rather, the token represents a leveraged position in perpetual swap trading, which can provide significantly amplified rewards.

With many market participants pricing in a prolonged crypto bull run, many institutional investors have turned to leveraged longs as a way to benefit from the rally.

HYPE ETF Inflows vs. XRP and Solana

Even though HYPE’s ETF inflows have so far trailed those of XRP and Solana, the token’s institutional demand has the capacity to explode higher.

The reason why HYPE’s institutional demand can gather pace faster is due to the size and liquidity of the underlying market. With a substantially smaller market value, HYPE has much greater upside potential, albeit with amplified downside risks.

Has HYPE’s Institutional Momentum Already Started to Cool?

HYPE’s institutional momentum appears to be weaker when compared to the likes of XRP and Solana. This, combined with the token’s smaller size, means that a sell-off in institutional demand can quickly turn into a fast-paced sell-off.

With reduced HYPE ETF inflows, while institutional buying in XRP and Solana continues, the institutional investors are likely to adopt a more risk-off stance.

Asset Main Institutional Thesis ETF Momentum Key Strength Main Catalyst Risk Level
XRP Payments and financial settlement Strongest consistency Deep liquidity and institutional familiarity Regulatory clarity and sustained XRP ETF inflows Medium
Solana (SOL▲$82.41) Smart contracts, stablecoins and tokenization Fastest growth potential Large ecosystem with room for institutional expansion Network upgrades and rising Solana ETF inflows Medium-High
Hyperliquid (HYPE) Decentralized derivatives and trading infrastructure Smaller and less consistent Higher-beta exposure to DeFi growth Renewed HYPE ETF inflows and Hyperliquid activity High
Bitcoin Core institutional crypto asset Dominant overall Highest liquidity and strongest institutional acceptance Renewed institutional accumulation Lower than altcoins
Ethereum Tokenization and digital finance infrastructure Established Broad smart-contract and stablecoin ecosystem Institutional adoption of on-chain finance Medium

Why Wall Street Is Choosing These Altcoins

ETF Access Is Changing How Institutions Buy Crypto

Crypto-ETF access is facilitating greater institutional adoption of the asset class, as the vehicles remove many barriers that traditional investors previously had to overcome before buying digital assets.

With more institutional-friendly products becoming available, Wall Street’s allocation to crypto is set to continue growing.

Regulatory Clarity Is Lowering the Barrier for Institutional Capital

Regulatory clarity around custody, trading venues, settlement, and more will significantly impact the institutional adoption of crypto assets.

XRP’s institutional adoption narrative received a significant boost with the CFTC’s clarity on the status of XRP as a commodity. Similar tailwinds could impact the institutional adoption of other tokens and assets.

Liquidity and Market Cap Matter More Than Narrative

Liquidity is critical for institutional investors in the same way that it is for market makers. In fact, institutional investors serve as a critical liquidity provision layer for crypto markets. For this reason, institutional investors are much more likely to buy assets with substantial market value and liquidity.

Liquidity and market maker presence appear to be the reason why institutional adoption of crypto is concentrated in a handful of tokens.

XRP vs. Solana vs. HYPE: Where Is the Smart Money Going?

Which Token Has the Strongest ETF Momentum?

XRP appears to have the strongest institutional profile based on the combination of inflows and volatility. XRP’s inflow streak of 6 consecutive weeks shows that institutional investors are accumulating the token on a sustained basis.

Meanwhile, Solana’s institutional growth potential is arguably the strongest when compared to other tokens. HYPE, on the other hand, offers the highest reward scenario. In the XRP vs. Solana vs. HYPE institutional demand scenario, investors should consider the risk-reward characteristics of each.

Which Altcoin Has the Biggest Institutional Growth Potential?

Solana appears to be the most compelling institutional investment in altcoins due to its long tail of potential applications and growing institutional adoption tailwinds. While XRP has strong institutional appeal, Solana has the highest growth potential.

And while HYPE offers a leveraged exposure to the trading venue space, Hyperliquid’s institutional success depends on the underlying business’s growth trajectory.

Which Trade Carries the Highest Risk?

Hyperliquid’s institutional adoption risk profile is the highest due to the product’s youth, volatility, and reliance on one product – perpetual swaps.

While the institutional adoption of XRP and Solana appears sustainable, both are subject to significant downside risks.

The Altcoin Rotation Could Still Fail

Why ETF Inflows Have Not Yet Become a Broad Market Trend

At this stage, the altcoin rotation appears to be concentrated in a handful of products. For the institutional adoption of crypto to continue gathering pace, inflows into multiple products need to be seen on a consistent basis. Until that point, institutional adoption will remain focused on a few instruments and products.

What Happens If Bitcoin Reclaims Institutional Attention?

The majority of institutional crypto attention is still concentrated on Bitcoin. If the token experiences another rally, institutional investors may reallocate a significant portion of their capital towards Bitcoin.

Such a scenario would not derail the institutional altcoin rotation, but rather extend the timeline of the current cycle before additional capital is allocated towards alternative crypto assets.

The Warning Signs Behind the Altcoin Rally

The warning sign of a failure of institutional altcoin rotation will be seen in reduced ETF inflows, reduced trading activity, increased institutional rotation towards Bitcoin, and general bearishness across the market.

The rise in institutional interest in altcoins should coincide with rising prices and trading volumes. A speculative-driven rally will be much more fragile and vulnerable to a correction.

What Wall Street’s Altcoin Flows Mean for the Next Crypto Rally

Could XRP, SOL and HYPE Lead the Next Leg Higher?

XRP, Solana and HYPE are all well positioned to benefit from the institutional adoption tailwinds.

XRP appears to have the most reliable institutional inflow story, with Solana offering the highest growth potential. And Hyperliquid’s institutional adoption narrative could provide investors with leveraged exposure to the bull market.

Which Altcoin Could Attract the Next Wave of Capital?

The next institutional adoption winner will likely derive from either a smart contract platform or a tokenized asset.

The products offering exposure to stablecoins, decentralized trading venues, custodial services, or tokenized assets are some of the obvious candidates.

The Institutional Flow Signals to Watch Next

The weekly institutional inflows into crypto products will provide investors with an indication of the strength of the institutional adoption cycle.

The key institutional flow signals that investors should watch include the inflows into Bitcoin and Ether. If institutional investors continue to allocate capital into these tokens, the institutional adoption of altcoins will accelerate.

But if the institutional investors begin to shift their attention and capital back to Bitcoin, the rotation towards altcoins will slow down.

Why Is Wall Street Moving Into Altcoins?

Wall Street is buying into altcoins because it has better access to regulated crypto products. This has made it much easier for institutional investors to gain exposure to alternative digital assets. Moreover, improved market liquidity and regulatory clarity have also contributed to the rising interest in altcoins.

Which Altcoins Are Attracting the Most Institutional Money?

XRP and Solana appear to be the darlings of Wall Street at present, with institutional investors continuing to buy the tokens despite the recent selloff in the broader market. Meanwhile, Hyperliquid’s HYPE has emerged as a much riskier asset that is capturing the attention of some investors.

Why Do XRP ETF Inflows Matter?

XRP ETF inflows are an important barometer for institutional demand for the token. They indicate that professional investors are continuing to buy the asset on a weekly basis, which suggests that they are confident in its prospects. While one week of inflows is always impressive, the fact that they have occurred for the sixth consecutive week is even more encouraging.

Are Solana ETF Inflows Growing Faster Than Bitcoin and Ethereum?

Inflows into Solana ETFs may well accelerate, as the token has a much lower market value than Bitcoin and Ethereum. Thus, institutional investors that want to buy crypto can buy much more Solana for the same price than they could buy Bitcoin or Ethereum. In absolute terms, institutional inflows into Bitcoin and Ethereum will almost certainly dwarf those into Solana.

However, the latter’s inflows will grow much faster than those of the leading crypto asset, at least for the time being.

Why Is HYPE Considered Riskier Than XRP and Solana?

HYPE has a much smaller market value and institutional footprint than either of the other two tokens discussed in this report. Thus, any given inflow will have a much bigger impact on its price, and it is much more vulnerable to sell-offs should institutional investors decide to lighten their exposure to the asset. At the same time, HYPE has the potential to deliver much bigger gains if the institutional buying continues.

Is This the Start of an Altcoin Season?

It is still too early to say that this represents the beginning of an altcoin season, as the institutional flows so far have been relatively limited. For now, it appears that institutional investors are rotating capital from Bitcoin into just a handful of altcoins.

For the time being, Wall Street still favors Bitcoin, with institutional investors allocating significantly more capital to the leading crypto asset than to any other digital asset.

What Could Stop the Institutional Altcoin Rotation?

A fall in institutional inflows, reduced liquidity and/or renewed regulatory scrutiny are all catalysts that could derail the altcoin rotation. Moreover, the recent rise in Bitcoin’s price makes it likely that some institutional investors will want to increase their exposure to the leading crypto asset.

Which Is the Best Institutional Trade: XRP, Solana or HYPE?

XRP appears to have the strongest fundamentals, with institutional investors buying the token on a weekly basis. Solana has the best long-term growth potential, and HYPE offers a much riskier trade that could deliver outsized returns.
