XRP News: Ripple CEO Turns More Bullish on US Crypto Regulation After CFTC Meeting
Key Insights:
- XRP news shifts to Washington as Garlinghouse says crypto rules are closer.
- CFTC talks brought crypto and TradFi leaders into the same policy debate.
- CLARITY Act faces a 60-vote Senate test before any final passage.
XRP news centered on Washington this week after Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse said the United States is “closer than ever” to clearer crypto rules. His comments followed a White House crypto meeting and the CFTC’s inaugural Innovation Advisory Committee meeting.
However, his statement showed industry sentiment, not a complete change in law. Congress has not passed the comprehensive market structure bill sought by Ripple and other crypto firms.
XRP News Focus Shifts to Washington Talks
Brad Garlinghouse spoke after joining the CFTC meeting on Aug. 20. He said participants agreed that existing financial rules no longer fit digital assets. The meeting included crypto executives, market operators, and traditional finance leaders.

“Rules written for a different era aren’t good enough,” Garlinghouse wrote on X. He said those rules fall short for consumers, businesses, and innovation. His comments echoed Ripple’s long-running push for clearer federal oversight.
In addition to the XRP news, the CFTC appointed Garlinghouse to the Innovation Advisory Committee in February. Other members include Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong and Uniswap Labs CEO Hayden Adams. The committee also includes leaders from CME Group, Nasdaq, and Cboe Global Markets.
XRP News: Ripple CEO Points to White House Meeting
The latest XRP news also followed a crypto meeting at the White House earlier in the week. President Donald Trump met executives from Coinbase, Ripple, Gemini, and other crypto companies. SEC Chairman Paul Atkins and CFTC Chairman Mike Selig also attended.
Garlinghouse said it was “great to be back at the White House” after the meeting. He appeared alongside Trump, Selig, and Atkins in discussions about digital asset policy. The CLARITY Act remained one of the main agenda items.
Trump urged Congress to pass a “fair version” of the bill. He said the measure would help keep the United States ahead of China. The legislation passed the House in July 2025 but stalled in the Senate.
Garlinghouse linked the discussion to broader crypto ownership in the United States. Citing a survey conducted by the National Cryptocurrency Association and The Harris Poll, He said one in four Americans owns digital assets. He added that Washington now understands the crypto voter remains active.
The Ripple CEO also referred to the CFTC process as involving the “Olympic rules of crypto.” He said participants from traditional finance reached the same conclusion. As per the XRP news, old rules no longer match current market conditions.
US Crypto Regulation Faces Senate Test
The most important test for US crypto regulationis now scheduled for Sept. 15. The Senate is expected to consider cloture on the motion to proceed with the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act. That procedural step requires 60 senators.
A successful vote for cloture would not pass the bill. It would allow the Senate to begin formal consideration only. Debate, amendments, and additional votes would still follow.
Several disputes remain unresolved. They include stablecoin rewards, decentralized finance protections, ethics rules, illicit finance controls, and consumer safeguards. Those issues could still shape the bill’s path through the Senate. For now, Garlinghouse remains bullish on U.S. crypto regulations, keeping XRP news closely tied to Washington’s efforts to establish clearer rules for the digital asset industry.
