Ethereum Spot Surge
Ethereum gained 18% during the session while spot trading volume rose about 400% from the previous 24-hour average. ETH traded near $2,500 as the rally developed.
The volume increase suggests that more market participants were involved than in a thin-liquidity price move, although it does not show by itself whether buyers can maintain control. Spot activity can reflect direct demand, but arbitrage desks, market makers and derivatives hedgers can also drive turnover when futures markets move quickly.
The distinction matters because a spot-led advance can prove more durable than a rally driven mainly by leveraged short liquidations. Crypto markets are tightly connected, however, so spot and derivatives activity often rise together during fast moves.
ETH Follow-Through
The immediate test is whether Ethereum can hold higher levels after the first burst of trading cools. If volume stays elevated while price consolidates near the rally zone, the move could develop into a stronger trend, while a quick decline would point more toward short covering and momentum trading.
ETF flows may provide another signal. Continued inflows into Ethereum exchange-traded funds alongside strong spot buying would strengthen the institutional case, while weak ETF demand would leave more of the rally dependent on crypto-native traders.

Before this session, Ethereum had been competing for attention with Bitcoin’s push toward $70,000 and renewed ETF inflows. The latest rally shifted that focus back toward ETH, but its durability will depend on whether spot participation remains strong after the initial 400% volume surge.
